“He doesn’t even have the cojones to tell it to my face. Everybody else says that it wasn’t personal, but if the first thing comes out of your mouth is it wasn’t personal, well guess what, it was personal,” said Baltimore Ravens’ Steve Smith in an interview WFNZ’s Frank Garcia and Mark Yarbro in Charlotte.
The statement is in response to how he learned that he’d been let go from the Carolina Panthers back in March. Smith claims that Panthers’ general manager, Dave Gettleman, gave him the runaround about his future with the team. In a post game interview Sunday, following the Panthers loss to Baltimore, the wide receiver said that his mission wasn’t to get back at his former teammates but to just play the game.
